Architectural Research in an Age of Open Systems

Design Research has an epistemological mode that differs from those in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, but is shared with some aspects of other generative fields such as engineering and computer science. Because the mode is generative, it relies heavily on creative practices, which means that some of its standards for determining validity are distinct from the standards in the other modes.
