Critical Modeling

The Leonhard Obermeyer Center (LOC) at the Technical University of Munich represents a research network dedicated to digitizing the built environment. It is part of the recently founded School of Engineering and Design, including civil engineering, architecture, and mobility systems departments. The LOC supports collaboration between architectural informatics research units, Building Information Modeling, and Geoinformatics. As a consequence of continuous exchange in research and teaching, a new interdisciplinary master’s program launches in October 2022. Furthermore, the LOC facilitates joint projects among faculty and industry partners, provides shared resources, and hosts events. Hence, it allows research on multifaceted topics of digitization. This context was crucial for the project Critical Modeling, which scrutinizes the sociotechnical aspects of urban data platforms. It benefited from frequent exchange with other LOC chairs and shared research facilities.
