Issue 6.2

Research Methods for Environmental Studies: A Social Science Approach

Environmental studies address human interactions with the environment. Complex contemporary environmental issues are studied by drawing on disciplines across the sciences and arts and incorporating research traditions such as ecology and environmental science, natural resource management, geography, and urban planning. By integrating diverse bodies of knowledge and developing intellectual and methodological approaches for increased awareness of environmental issues, environmental studies can provide design educators and design professionals with the necessary knowledge and skills to make competent decisions regarding pertinent environmental matters.
